The Church

September 2009 and on this occasion decided to raise money for

got the cockpit which includes the flight engineers panel,
placed it on a trailer added a computer to activate all the
instruments and projectors to give a good visual display. The
present owner stores it at RAF Leeming but it is at Church

Several Members of the Branch joined other Veterans and ATC Cadets
to celebrate the anniversary of the Battle of Britain at
RAF Elvington
|
 |
|
The Branch
then assembled at St. Mary's Church in Tadcaster for the
Branch Battle of Britain Memorial service. The Standard
was again paraded with an escort of Cadets from 2434 ATC
Squadron from RAF Church Fenton. The service was led by
Reverend Canon Sue Sheriff, the reading was given by Mrs.
Pauline Doherty (Hon Sec.) and the Dedication was read by
Mr. Steve Helsdon (Chairman). Guests at the Service were
Mayor of Tadcaster Cllr Miss Margaret Middlemass, Deputy
Mayor Cllr Greg Lodge, OC YUAS Squadron Leader Shirley
accompanied by a Flight of YUAS Cadets and Pilot Officer
Whitaker and Warrant Officer Bates accompanied by ATC
Cadets from 2434 Squadron at Church Fenton. Following the
Service Branch Members, their spouses and the Branch

Members of
the Branch and guests made their way to The National
Memorial Arboretum for luncheon. Afterwards they all
assembled for a Branch Memorial Service at the newly
dedicated RAFA Garden. Later they all spent time viewing
the various Service Memorials spread over the Arboretum. |
|
|
Four
Members of the Branch with the assistance of Cadets from
2434 Squadron ATC at Church Fenton collected for the Wings
Appeal in Millennium Square in Boston Spa. Other Members
were collecting in Selby and Tadcaster. |
|
|
Tadcaster
Branch, with the Standard carried by Mr. Lance Saddington,
went to Kirkby Wharfe Cemetery to lay a wreath beside the
Service Graves in the Cemetery and afterwards posed for a
photograph at the Lych-gate. |
|
|
A group of
Cadets from the YUAS at Church Fenton kindly invited the members
of the Tadcaster Branch to join them on a visit to the RAF
Museum at Hendon and seven members took advantage of the offer.
The Cadets were on a working visit and the members enjoyed the
various presentations made by the Cadets on the evolution of the
aircraft and weapons in the RAF. |
|
|
Afterwards we toured the Museum
individually. We all had an excellent day out and much
appreciated the food (YUAS supplied lunch) and hospitality of
the Cadets. |
