The Bridlington Branch are asking members to consider the future, as the Chairman and Secretary are looking to stand down from their respective posts in March 2011. At the recent Annual General Meeting only 15 members were present, which is a worrying trend. John Allison, Area Councillor, who attended the AGM, asked those present to talk to other like members, and ask them to look to the future - John said 'I for one do not want to see any Branch close, it must be the last thing on members minds'

A Filey teenager, Stuart Nicholson, 17, who is a Sergeant with the Scarborough ATC was chosen as one of about 20 Yorkshire Cadets to take on a four week challenge of trekking in and around the Spiti Valley and Lahaul region of the Himachal Pradesh, India and climb Kanamo (5974m) in difficult low oxygen conditions over a period of three weeks. The trek is graded 'strenuous'. As well as being a 'once in a lifetime' opportunity, the Scarborough Sixth Form College student is using the experience to raise funds for the local branch of the Alzheimer's Society. Stuart first worked with the Society when he was doing his bronze Duke of Edinburgh award and has previously raised funds for them by doing a sponsored bike ride from Scarborough to Whitby and back. 'They need money and what they do is fantastic - it was a real eye-opener for me working for them,' he said. Stuart is studying computing, English Language, physics and history, and hopes to follow a career in the police force or teaching. Over the next six months when he is not studying for exams, he will be continuing his preparation for the trek, which takes place in November this year.

Visit to R.A.F. Linton-on-Ouse by the Tadcaster Branch RAFA 23rd March 2010

On a fine spring morning 15 members and guests of the Tadcaster Branch assembled in the main car park of Royal Air Force Linton-on-Ouse for an official visit to the unit. We were met by the Deputy Station RAFALO Flt. Lt. Rory Denman. After our welcome we were taken to various areas of the station and at each section we were given an escorted tour by a member of that section. We also enjoyed an excellent lunch in the Officers Mess. Sections visited included the new ATC Tower, Engineering, Squadron Facilities and the Flight Simulators. At the Simulators a few were given the opportunity to show their skills flying the Tucano. Some of the visitors were reluctant to have a go but really enjoyed the spectacle of the erratic flying by the braver souls. The tour was rounded off with a visit to the Station Memorial room where we were given a short history by the Curator Mr Alan Mawby.

On Saturday 10th July, the Club hosted Geoff Orme, one of our few WW2 Veterans in a Desert Islands Discs type evening. The event was well attended, and Geoff gave a very good account of his war time experiences, along with a little of his civilian life. A very good evening was had by all present.

40 Members enjoyed their Annual Lunch at the Beechwood Close Hotel, Shipton Road on Sunday 11th July. The Branch President and his wife Jennifer has just returned from a holiday abroad to be with the members on this annual occasion.

Members of the Branch collected £263.00 recently for Wings Appeal. The collection was made in the Coppergate Centre. On the same day, the Club held an Open Day, which in essence was for the local community to come and visit the Branch/Club, to see what we actually do behind our 'Green Door'. The Club Room was packed with members and friends, and a few local people did come and visit, and enjoyed the day with the Members.
